We are knee deep into our summer season! Blackberries have been beautiful and plentiful, but are really getting parched. This is the first season in several years that we have had enough to sell as whole berries at our market stand. We have a freezer full and should have enough to last the rest of the year, and as long as they hang on, we'll be picking them. Very soon, we need to move into blueberry picking which we do off location, but still local if we can. Our neighbor generously gives us access to peaches and grapes and those will be coming in soon as well. With all that fresh fruit to be harvested and put up, you can imagine how busy just doing that makes me. In addition, we are selling at market 2-3 times per week and offering the freshest bread I possibly can. I get up very early on Friday morning to get the dough started so it has time to rise and bake before it's time to leave to set up at around 2pm. This is the first year that I have been able to bake it same day fresh, and it has been very well recieved. It often arrives at market too hot to bag up, and wrapped up in a pretty fabric lined basket. The smell of warm, fresh bread lingers in our vendor tent. The pizza dough is new this year and seems well recieved. One young friend of ours declared it the best way to eat pizza in town and no longer asks his mom to order when he has friends over. He wants to make it at home, which is just the response I had hoped for. I offer it in four flavors. Last Friday, the local paper came and did a feature on our Fox Park Fair market, and guess who was on the cover?! It was so exciting to find that Grandview Acres can now say we've had media in two local papers. (The last being a feature story in March's Newport Plain Talk) If you are in the area, please do come down to see us at market. I often get a creative bug and make things that are not listed on the website, and each week I have a "chef's choice" bread special. This week, I have been making Zucchini Chocolate Cakes using local organic zucchini. It's so good, and it has a vegetable in it--so go ahead--cheat on your diet guilt free! We can be found in downtown Greeneville, on the corner of Main and McKee every Friday from 3-6 pm, and some Tues at the same time. Saturday mornings find us on the Crosby Hwy, at the Tanner Cultural Center in Newport TN from 8am-12pm. If you know what you want ahead of time, please contact us, because supplies are limited and many items have been selling out fast. Stay cool everyone! |
